Liquid Handling Workstation

The Nimbus iProbe compact liquid handling workstation features up to four independent channels that can be configured with any combination of 1-ml or 5-ml pipetting heads. The new instrument provides flexible pipetting choices to and from microplates or tubes in volumes from 1μl to 5,000 μl. It performs a wide range of liquid handling steps such as tube-to-tube, tube-to-plate, and plate-to-plate transfers, including pipetting from nonstandard labware. The flexibility offered by independently spaced channels is particularly suitable for hit picking and sample preparation from tubes. The 5-ml capability enhances high-volume applications such as vacuum-based solid-phase extraction. The Nimbus iProbe includes an intuitive graphical interface that facilitates programming.

Imaging Software

The cellSens software for life science imaging applications is available in three different packages designed to meet various user requirements. The software's user-definable interface allows the imaging process to be personalized from start to finish, for complete control over the entire experiment. Each package integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Windows and other Office programs. The cellSens Entry program provides the ability to perform simple image acquisition and documentation for basic image capture. The cellSens Standard software enables more advanced image capture, including time-lapse TWAIN acquisition. It offers the ability to motorize processes such as objective and filter changes, focusing, and internal shutter control. The cellSens Dimension supports the control and processing requirements for microscope-based experimental systems, providing a broad range of advanced features as well as optional specialized modules.

Workflow Module

The QIAsymphony AS module extends the capabilities of the QIAsymphony SP sample purification system and simplifies routine work processes through easy-to-use, intuitive software. The new module provides fully automated setup of Qiagen assays and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kits. It addresses the complexity of laboratory processes and logistics of PCR assay setup in a straightforward way while maintaining the high performance of Qiagen real-time and end-point PCR kits and PCR assays. Samples processed on the QIAsymphony SP can be automatically transferred to the QIAsymphony AS, which reduces manual handling steps and documentation requirements.

Blue Fluorescent Protein

A monomeric blue fluorescent protein with high photostability and pH stability is available. For use in protein labeling and organelle labeling, the TagBFP's narrow fluorescence emission peak makes it suitable for multicolor imaging. TagBFP features bright blue fluorescence with excitation and emission maxima at 402 nm and 457 nm. It offers a relatively short maturation half-time at 37°C. TagBFP can be expressed and detected in a wide range of organisms. Mammalian cells transiently transfected with TagBFP expression vectors give bright fluorescence within 10 to 12 hours and show no cytotoxic effects or protein aggregation. The proteins performance in fusions has also been demonstrated in the β-actin and α-tubulin models.

Staudinger Chemistry Reagents

A new line of Staudinger Ligation Reagents for in vivo and in vitro labeling of biomolecules features Staudinger chemistry, which relies on an azide-phosphine conjugation that works well in live-cell labeling and mass spectrometry applications. It is particularly useful in the study of protein glycosylation. It features a high degree of chemoselectivity, which eliminates off-target ligations with other biomolecules. The Staudinger ligation reactions are performed in aqueous solutions at physiological pH without side reactions with buffers and detergents. Azido-labeled biomolecules can be incorporated into a protein metabolically and detected with a variety of phosphine probes, including Thermo Scientific DyLight Fluorescent Dyebased probes. These reagents offer an alternative that is nontoxic to biological systems because there is no biomolecule oxidation.
