Summary

On Tuesday, a task force presented its report on the governance of the European Research Council (ERC), Europe's 4-year-old, €7.5 billion science funding agency. One of the key recommendations: There's no need to cut the ERC loose from the European Commission and create a new, independent organization. With some adjustments, the current structure—a source of major friction in the past—can continue, says the task force, which included top officials from the ERC and the commission.
