In science news around the world this week, U.S. courts have backed gene patents and human embryonic stem cells, the Census of Marine Life has won Japan's International Cosmos Prize, U.K. primate research was deemed to be justified, hidden epidemics of HIV were found to affect as many as 28% of members of some groups of men who have sex with men in the Middle East and North Africa, and the European Anti-Fraud Office is investigating alleged conflicts of interest at the European Medicines Agency in London.
