Summary

In science news around the world this week, most Himalayan glaciers are retreating; 36 wild boar died from inhaling hydrogen sulfide produced by rotting green algae at a beach in Brittany; a committee has called for more openness and better data regarding the production of natural gas from shale using hydrofracturing, or fracking, technology; chemists are criticizing the U.K. Engineering and Physical Science Research Council's plans to reduce its research funding for synthetic organic chemistry; and Sri Lanka plans to capture elephants and send them to Buddhist and Hindu temples.
