Summary

The solution to a long-standing mystery about the source of the most common meteorites found on Earth topped the list of this year's runners-up for Breakthrough of the Year. Other notable discoveries included ancient DNA in modern humans, the structure of photosystem II, pristine clouds of hydrogen in the early universe, the microbiome, a new malaria vaccine, alien solar systems, zeolites, and senescent cells.
