Summary

The winner in the Photography category of the 2011 International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge is Bryan Jones of the University of Utah for "Metabolomic Eye," a metabolic look at the wide diversity of cells in the mouse eye. Honorable mention goes to Robert Rock Belliveau for "Microscopic Image of Trichomes on the Skin of an Immature Cucumber." And the People's Choice award goes to Babak Anasori, Michael Naguib, Yury Gogotsi, and Michel W. Barsoum of Drexel University for "The Cliff of the Two-Dimensional World," a nanostructured material made from ultrathin layers of titanium-based compounds and seen under an electron microscope.
