"The Internet of Things," which merges cloud computing with radio-frequency identification, wireless sensors, and other forms of embedded intelligence to develop the next generation of networked "smart" devices, has become a buzzword in China, giving rise to investors' guides, articles in the popular press, and a slew of dedicated websites. Experts caution that China's prowess is limited and that leading research on the Internet of Things is coming out of Europe and the United States. But with strong government support and a huge interest in new technologies, China's influence is growing in the emerging field.
