When it is completed, the Square Kilometer Array, or SKA, will be the world's largest and most sensitive radio telescope. South Africa won the right to host two-thirds of the awe-inspiring facility earlier this year. Meghna Sachdev chats with Roy Maartens, professor in the Department of Physics at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, about what this means for the development of science in South Africa and the African continent.
