Summary

An investigation and a congressional hearing earlier this year prompted the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to impose government-wide restrictions on conference travel—and now some scientific meetings are paying the price. Travel restrictions may be causing problems now, but things could get a lot worse if Congress enacts the Government Spending Accountability Act of 2012, which would make the OMB travel restrictions permanent and make it harder to obtain waivers.
