Summary

The open access journal eLife is scheduled to make its official debut next week, and the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief has suggested a new ratio for gauging whether countries are moving toward an "AIDS-Free Generation." In other news, Eurasian jays don't like being watched or listened to while hiding nuts, suggesting that the jays understand that others can hear what they are doing. And this week's numbers quantify research funding at U.S. universities and the value of the Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize 2012.
