Summary

Backed by millions of euros from the European Union and designed by a group of higher education research centers, a new system to grade the world's universities is being billed as less simplistic and more reliable than existing university rankings. It will assess universities more broadly, comparing research reputation, teaching quality, ties with the local community, international orientation, and success in tech transfer. But some institutions are refusing to provide data, and the project has been called unnecessary and poorly designed.
