Summary

Science advisers have always sat uneasily at the intersection of politics and science. Still, Anne Glover's appointment as the European Union's first chief scientific adviser is a sign of a shift. Glover's duties only start with providing the European Commission's president with expert advice, analyzing major policy proposals, liaising with institutions such as the European Union's food safety authority, and helping with emergency planning.
