Summary

Devastating results from two trials have sent researchers scrambling—again—to reassess HIV vaccine strategies, and they have raised concerns about a vector that is widely used in vaccine and gene therapy studies. The double whammy suggests that a successful vaccine, the most effective way to slow if not end the epidemic, lies far in the future.
