Summary

The European Union's next continent-wide R&D program, Horizon 2020, is slated to receive €70.2 billion from 2014 to 2020, a 23.4% increase over the previous incarnation, Framework Programme 7. But in the short-term, European scientists will feel some pain: Framework spending peaked this year at nearly €11 billion, while Horizon 2020 next year will spend roughly €8.8 billion as it ramps up to full-speed.
