Dirk Dons was a 20-something toxicologist working in Belgium when Iraq government forces unleashed chemical weapons against a Kurdish village in 1988, killing at least 3200 people. He accompanied a Doctors Without Borders team that investigated the incident, collecting samples and conducting interviews. He describes what he saw and learned there.
