Summary

U.S. physicists want to completely rebuild the particle accelerator that drives the Advanced Photon Source, a more radical—and disruptive—upgrade than originally planned. If approved by the Department of Energy, the upgrade would make the x-ray synchrotron at Argonne National Laboratory nearly 100 times brighter and retain the lab's leadership in the field.
