Summary

In science news around the world, the Smithsonian Institution announces a new virtual genomics institute, contentious U.N. climate negotiations in Lima yield a weak agreement on greenhouse gas emissions, the postpublication peer-review website PubPeer moves to quash a subpoena for anonymous user data, and an oil spill threatens wildlife in Bangladesh's mangrove-rich Sundarbans. Also, researchers and Native American tribes protest legislation that would turn over a rare Apache archaeological site to a copper mining company. And neurologist Gregory Petsko of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City tells Science about the recommendations in a new U.S. National Academies report on the postdoctoral experience.
