Summary

Modern technology is highly dependent on a complex array of materials that have increasingly become more distant from the consumer. Rare earth metals, for example, have become critical to our computers, cars, and myriad other technologies, but questions about whether these elements are renewable, and how best to balance mining and recycling practices remain.
