Summary

In science news around the world, a viral disease that is threatening goat and sheep herds across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia is targeted for eradication; Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory makes a foray into drug development; a devastating banana disease reaches Pakistan; protesters continue to seek to block the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope at the summit of Hawaii’s Mauna Kea; and more. Also, a new collaboration seeks to encourage donations of brains from people diagnosed with autism to assist in understanding the disorder’s biological basis. And new data suggest that ferocious meat-eating tyrannosaurs may sometimes have turned their sharp teeth on one another.
