Sample Tracking Rack/Reader

Designed to improve sample tracking and protection, a new barcoded latch rack and wireless barcode reader enhance Thermo Fisher Scientific's broad portfolio of automated and semiautomated laboratory instruments and related consumables for secure sample collection and storage. Barcoded tubes and racks—with both 2D and linear barcodes—can now be read with the VisionMate wireless reader. Unlike currently available wireless barcode readers, the unit is designed to lay flat, allowing users to set it directly on the benchtop and scan tubes or racks without holding it. For samples that should not be exposed to ambient conditions, the reader can easily be used as a handheld instrument, reading samples while they remain safely in storage. The VisionMate wireless reader can read tubes in a cold environment, capturing and sending data via Bluetooth to a paired computer.

Scavenger Screening Kit

The new Metal Scavenger Screening Kit contains a selection of Biotage industrial metal scavengers in an easy-to-use format, with detailed instructions that enable researchers to screen active pharmaceutical ingredient product mixtures and identify an optimum scavenger for their downstream metal-removal process. The kit includes five 1-g prepacked tubes of ISOLUTE Si-TMT, ISOLUTE SCX-2, ISOLUTE Si-Trisamine, ISOLUTE Si-Thiol, and Biotage MP-TMT metal scavengers. Biotage metal scavengers are industry proven, supported by a comprehensive regulatory qualification-support package, and produced in an ISO9001:2008-compliant manufacturing facility. Each scavenger is batch controlled and has served the pharmaceutical, drug discovery, and fine chemical industries for many years.

Chiral Columns

The 3-µm particle size is the latest addition to Phenomenex's new chiral selector, Lux Amylose-1, amylose tris (3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate). These high-efficiency Lux polysaccharide columns are ideal for ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), HPLC, and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) chiral screening and analysis. Now with two sizes—the new 3-µm and existing 5-µm particles—method scalability from analytical work to preparative purification is seamless. The affordable Lux Amylose-1 provides valuable enantioselectivity and is a guaranteed alternative to other phases with the same chiral selector. The 3-µm particle media is available in analytical columns, while the 5-µm particle media is available in both analytical columns and Phenomenex-patented Axia preparative column hardware, both of which are stable in normal phase, reversed phase, polar organic, and SFC conditions. The Phenomenex Lux amylose and cellulose chiral column line of six chiral selectors comprise an affordable and complementary kit for chiral separations, featuring high efficiency, excellent loading capacity, and pressure stability up to 300 bar in a wide range of conditions.

Small-Scale Crossflow Device

The single-use ultrafilter Sartocon Slice 50 is a new crossflow filter device designed for use in biotechnological applications, especially for membrane screening and small-volume process development. Sartocon Slice 50 is offered as an encapsulated and ready-to-use crossflow module with a filter area of 50 cm2 and a wide variety of molecular weight cutoffs. The current good manufacturing process (cGMP)-validated, self-contained unit eliminates the need for a compression holder and is available in a choice of two polymers: The Hydrosart membrane is a stable polymer suitable for a broad pH range and can be depyrogenated using NaOH at elevated temperatures. It is extremely hydrophilic, making it non-protein-binding and virtually nonfouling, and delivers an exceptional high flux. The polyethersulfone membrane, which is well established in the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries, is a stable polymer that is ideal for a broad pH and temperature range.

One-Step Conjugation Kits

New red, black, and blue 400-nm LATEX conjugation kits are one-step kits for the covalent conjugation of antibodies and proteins to specially treated latex beads. The new conjugation kits are easy to use and allow quick, effective conjugation of antibodies, proteins, and peptides to latex beads, potentially simplifying and improving assay development while reducing development timelines. Additionally, the range of available colors enables multiplexing and therefore maximum flexibility in assay design. The kits are suitable for development of diagnostics, in lateral flow assays, and across a range of other applications, and are fully compatible with human serum. Conjugation to latex particles using conventional methodology is complex, time consuming, and typically requires extensive optimization and relatively large quantities of antibodies, with aggregation often a major problem associated with covalent conjugations, and extensive pH optimization required for passive conjugation techniques.
