    The off-target effects of gene editing may introduce extra hydrogen bond donors and acceptors and basic amino acids in proteins and peptides, which was proposed to underlie the local buildup of strong acids such as HCl and subsequent carcinogenesis (1-4). Some patients received gene therapies in previous trials have been reported to have developed leukemia. This warrants further investigations before gene editing makes its way from the bench-top to bedside.
