When you gaze out your window, what do you see? Reading Leslie Anthony's new book might change your answer. In The Aliens Among Us, Anthony, a biologist and journalist, weaves together stories of invasive species that range from those in the headlines (e.g., pythons in the Everglades) to those that have become part of the everyday lives of most North Americans, such as European earthworms and starlings. In doing so, he introduces the essential concepts of a field that is becoming a major branch of study—and not a moment too soon.
