    Three-dimensional reconstructed images of the islet shown in Fig. 1A viewed from various angles. Two bright major vessels, one coursing vertically in the upper portion of the islet and the other horizontally in the lower portion, are apparent. Numerous tubular and continuous microvessels appear as 3D meshes surrounding every cell in the islet. Interstitial spaces are too dark to show up in the 3D reconstruction.
  • Movie 2
    Fluorescence images of insulin exocytosis in the islet shown in Fig. 1A. The islet was immersed in a solution containing 0.7 mM SRB, and the movie shows images obtained between 150 and 270 s after stimulation with 20 mM glucose.
