Photochemical Evolution of Oxygen from Certain Aqueous Solutions

Illumination of aqueous solutions containing ferric ions and hydrogen peroxide leads to evolution of 02 by way of a chain reaction. The photochemically active intermediate is the complex between Fe3 and HO2-. The effects of pH and concentration of the reagent on the quantum yield (chain length) are reported.
