About The Cover

The benthic foraminiferan Sorites marginalis (Lamarck) was first described in 1816. The initial chambers are in the center of the test, and succeeding ones are added in an annular series. This species occurs only in shallow tropical seas, and is distributed worldwide. See page 775 [SEM photograph by Kenneth Severin, Department of Geology, University of California, Davis 95616]
