About The Cover

The solar corona at 1,000,000 K photographed (23 October 1987) by a multilayer Cassegrain x-ray telescope on the Stanford/MSFC Rocket X-ray Spectroheliograph. This telescope provides images of solar emission between 171 and 175 Å which is dominated by Fe IX and Fe X emission lines. See page 1781.
