Paris—While the scientific underpinnings of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) program are under attack in the United States (see lead story), the $10 billion project continues to gather momentum in Europe. A panel of scientists and industrialists appointed by the European Commission has given the European arm of the effort, meant to demonstrate the feasibility of fusion power, a resounding pat on the back.
