High-transition temperature copper oxide superconductors have puzzled physicists since these materials were discovered 10 years ago. Nagaosa's Perspective discusses a new theory described by Zhang (1089) in the same issue in which superconductivity is related to another important property, antiferromagnetism, by an elegant symmetry principle.
