Summary
JERUSALEM-- During his 18-month tenure as Israel's first science adviser, Israel Hanukoglu has been arguing for a change of emphasis in Israeli science policy. He says the government's love affair with high-technology--stoked by the recent influx of thousands of skilled former Soviet scientists (see main text)--could imperil the country's basic research. But so far, the plea has fallen on deaf ears.
