Many insights into the formation of our solar system come from isotopic "clocks" in ancient primitive meteorites. But as Gilmour explains in his Perspective, gaining absolute dates for these early events requires painstaking analysis and comparison between different clocks. He highlights the report by Amelin et al., who determine absolute times for two key events in the evolution of solid bodies in our solar system .
