Summary
In an unpublished study, although three-quarters of the 76 amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients interviewed had some depressive symptoms, as a group they were significantly less depressed than patients diagnosed with major depression. Access to brain-computer interfaces to improve communication could improve their quality of life even further.
