BAGHDAD-- Scores of academic buildings around Iraq were bombed, looted, and burned during the U.S. invasion. Science departments were especially hard hit. Classes nominally resumed on 17 May, but money is scarce, security is tenuous, and dozens of top administrators have been fired because of ties to Saddam Hussein's Baath party.
