Summary
DFrizzled2 is a Drosophila member of the Frizzled family of Wnt receptors. In his Perspective, Arias discusses the findings by Mathew et al. of Wingless association with DFrizzled2 in the fly neuromuscular junction. The interaction results in a surprising cleavage of the receptor's intracellular domain, an event that is required for the maturation of synaptic structures. This cleavage represents a novel modality of Wnt signaling, a pervasive pathway in animal development.
