    Electrically active axons signal adjacent oligodendrocytes, triggering local cellular signaling pathways that promote specific myelination of active axons. Vesicular glutamate released from axons signals neighboring oligodendrocytes to form cholesterol-rich signaling domains and locally produce myelin basic protein (5).
