Response to "Perspective - Quantum Mechanics of Black Holes" by Edward Witten - Science 03 Aug 2012: titled "Spin, Hawking Radiation and LIGO (the Laser Interferometry Gravitational-wave Observatory"): I'm unable to draw a diagram of the Complex Number Plane here but will try to describe the basics of its horizontal X axis and vertical Y axis (a diagram can be found at the top of p.6 in my article "Understanding Today's Science with Help from Special Relativity and General Relativity" - http://vixra.org/abs/1609.0395). The Complex Number Plane has a leftward direction from 0 on the horizontal X axis which is called the "complex axis" and corresponds to backwards motion in time. The direction to the right of 0 on X is called the "real axis" and corresponds to forward motion in time, while the vertical Y axis intersecting the X axis at 0 represents the so-called Imaginary Time derived from Special Relativity and quantum mechanics.

Historically, mathematics often finds practical application in physics. The idea of the quantum was originally developed by Max Planck purely as a mathematical convenience^, but it's been part of our reality for over a century.
