Snake venoms are remarkably complex mixtures that can stun or kill prey within minutes. But more and more researchers are studying venom because it contains peptides that can dull pain, lower blood pressure, and perhaps cure cancer. Studies of venom have already led to several successful drugs, and new molecular techniques may lead to more candidates. Venoms from spiders, scorpions, cone snails, and centipedes hold promise as well.
