American paleontology faces a growing schism. Many researchers say that a brisk commercial trade is swallowing up America's fossil riches, as dinosaurs and other specimens, some scientifically valuable, are sold as decoration. Commercial collectors counter that there are plenty of fossils to go around, and that their business is in keeping with American traditions of free enterprise and property rights.
