Two years after the Middle East respiratory syndrome emerged, many scientific questions remain. Scientists are confident that camels play a key role in the spread of the virus, but they don't know how it's transmitted between the animals or how it jumps the species barrier to humans. An unusual collaboration of scientists from Qatar and the Netherlands has collected thousands of samples at Qatari farms, a camel market, and a slaughterhouse to address these issues. Now, they are coming up with their first answers.
