Colony Counter/ID System

A vibrant new automated colony counting and chromogenic identification system, Protos 3, allows walk-away colony counts, as well as accurate identification of colonies cultured on chromogenic plates. What makes the new Protos 3 outperform other commercial colony counters is the system's ability to count colonies in seconds and identify microbial species by their color on chromogenic plates. This is a great time saver, providing accurate, objective, and fully traceable GLP- compliant results. The stylish, yet practical Protos 3, which comes in bright red, attaches easily to a computer and requires minimal training to set up. Users simply input their plate identification and click. The Protos 3, featuring a highly sensitive CCD camera combined with unique three color LED lighting, rapidly images an infinite number of colony colors on one plate and detects colonies as small as 0.043 mm. The Protos 3's powerful software then generates true to life counts and plate images.

Trace Gas Analysis System

PTR-TOF systems are capable of measuring trace gas samples in real-time with a high mass resolving power. The new "fastGC" module adds an optional chemical separation step before the analysis. The module consists of a short GC column with an advanced heating concept for ultrafast heating and equally fast cooling rates which makes this pre-separation step nearly real-time. A full PTR-TOF spectrum can be acquired every 100 ms—18,000 times faster than a typical GC spectrum—and contains several hundred compounds separated according to their chemical composition. Separating compounds with the same composition (isomers) remains, however, the domain of GC. The fastGC add-on provides a quick chemical preseparation step for the PTR-TOF systems. The fastGC module is integrated with the PTR-TOF and the normal sample gas inlet is utilized. This allows researchers to perform real-time measurements and add fastGC runs at time points of interest for enhanced separation and identification.

Mutation Surveyor Software

Mutation Surveyor software is compatible with all major sequencing platforms and chemistries. Included in version 5.0 is a new variant knowledge database, which allows users to track variants by chromosomal position, indicate false-positives and other chemistry/sequencing artifacts, and query the variant information from popular databases such as dbSNP, dbNSFP, and COSMIC. Also incorporated in Mutation Surveyor software version 5.0 is a user management system, which enables administrators to set up password-protected user names, control access rights, and generate a user audit trail for each analysis project. Access rights for each user are determined by the administrator, providing assurance that unauthorized individuals do not accidentally alter a project or change the analysis parameters established by the laboratory. User management also provides user ID and organization in the header of the final reports. Each change to the project is captured by user and time stamped.

Cleanroom Furniture

A brand new range of chemical-resistant lab furniture has been unveiled. The range is built from Trespa Toplab Base—a brand of high-pressure laminate plate—giving an attractive appearance and a range of inherent benefits. As well as being chemical-resistant and antistatic, it has low dirt pick-up, is easy to clean, and is scratch-resistant, making it ideal for use in a controlled lab environment. The robust cleanroom furniture can be created bespoke to requirements and a core range of sub-assemblies will be kept in stock for a short delivery time. These include a step-over bench, wall mounted shelving, and a selection of tables with options including shelving and upstands. The UK-manufactured products are ideal for use in in all Connect 2 Cleanrooms modular cleanrooms including the recently introduced modular pre-engineered version of the FM Approved Puracore wall and ceiling panel system. All products have a Trespa Toblab Base surface finish with mild steel powder coated legs.

Reverse Transcriptase

A novel, thermostable reverse transcriptase, WarmStart RTx Reverse Transcriptase, has been specifically designed for nucleic acid detection. WarmStart RTx is reversibly inhibited at room temperature, and is activated when warmed above 40° enabling researchers to set up their reactions at room temperature with no background reverse transcriptase activity. Maximum activity is reached at 55° enabling high-temperature cDNA synthesis. This results in more consistent target detection across different RNA targets. WarmStart RTx Reverse Transcriptase builds upon NEB's portfolio of enzymes for nucleic acid detection, including Hot Start Taq DNA Polymerase, Q5 Hot Start High Fidelity DNA Polymerase, Bst 2.0 WarmStart DNA Polymerase, and Antarctic Thermolabile UDG.
