About The Cover

COVER Red squirrels are beloved in the United Kingdom, but their numbers have fallen there as they succumb to a lethal virus carried by invasive North American gray squirrels. Persistent culls have turned a large island, Anglesey, into a gray squirrel–free zone, allowing the endangered red species to come back. Similar efforts are under way in Scotland as well. See page 1268.
