  • RE: Autolyosomes vs autophagosome-lysosome fusion

    In the first paragraph, the authors state that "the autophagosome fuses with lysosomes and becomes the autolysosome." Further into the paper, on the second page, they then state that "... accumulation of elongated isolation membranes and even double-membrane autophagosome-like structures, but not autolysosomes, has been observed in mouse embryonic stem cells lacking [...] ATG3 (13, 14)...". However, in paragraph 6 they state "the fusion between autophagosome-like structures and lysosomes occur almost normally in ATG3 KO MEFs."

    Clearly, these statements contradict one another. Are the authors suggesting there is a mechanistic difference in autolysosome formation in mouse embryonic stem cells versus mouse embyronic fibroblasts?
