About The Cover

Cover image expansion

COVER Herbicides (dots) are designed to kill weeds, but some plants (such as the one shown at center) have become resistant to these substances. Whereas public awareness of antibiotic resistance is increasing, the alarming spread of resistance to chemicals used to protect crops against pests, weeds, and pathogens is less well appreciated. For more on the proliferation of biocide resistance, see page 726.
