Automated Liquid Handler

Hamilton Company introduces the compact Microlab Prep automated liquid handler as an ideal entry-level solution for those transitioning from manual pipetting in 96- and 384-well microplates and other sample vessels. In addition to the standard configuration consisting of two independent pipetting channels, the handler features a high-speed, multiprobe head as well as a configuration containing both pipetting technology types for the utmost in flexibility and speed. Each allows hands-free operation to enhance laboratory productivity and eliminate repetitive use injuries, and Microlab Prep easily fits on a lab bench or in many biological safety cabinets for further assay flexibility. Like Hamilton's larger automated systems, it uses air-displacement pipetting technology, eliminating the risk of liquid-induced contamination and reducing maintenance frequency as compared to liquid-displacement pipettors. High pipetting accuracy, precision, and consistency are ensured throughout the dynamic pipetting range of 0.5 µL–1,000 µL, without the potential for errors and variability that occur during manual pipetting.

Rubella Virus-Like Particles

The Native Antigen Company offers Rubella virus-like particles (VLPs) for immunoassay development and manufacturing. These first-to-market Rubella VLPs are expressed as recombinant proteins in our proprietary mammalian cell expression system. Recombinant expression of the Rubella structural polyprotein in HEK293 cells enables reliable, cost-effective production of high-quality VLPs, helping to ensure that researchers achieve consistent and accurate results throughout immunoassay development and scale-up manufacturing. The Native Antigen Company also offers Rubella antigens, monoclonal antibodies, and ELISAs for use in a wide range of research applications.

Compatible with all available automated specimen processors, our innovative SmartPlate design brings together Thermo Fisher Scientific Oxoid and Remel prepared culture media with an enhanced universal plate format for efficient, high-throughput isolation, identification, differentiation, and screening of samples. SmartPlate technology offers a sustainable assay-plate design that reduces the resin materials used to manufacture each plate and minimizes laboratory waste, thanks to its advanced durability. These plates support the latest automated and manual methods for the analysis of microbiological samples for clinical, food safety testing, and pharmaceutical laboratories. The SmartPlate design harnesses unique stacking rings, enhancing stackability and ease-of-transport for several sample plates in a single movement. This improves manual handling around the laboratory and between facilities, and optimizes processing within automated-handling installations. By stacking the SmartPlate formats, laboratories can also maximize the valuable capacity of premium laboratory workspaces, including refrigerators and incubators.

Cryo-EM Sample Preparation System

TTP Labtech introduces chameleon, an industry-enabling sample-preparation system for cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM). The new system facilitates consistent application of samples to high-quality foil grids for cryo-EM analysis, automating the standard approach, which is a technically demanding, largely manual process. Chameleon will allow researchers to more easily and accurately determine the structure of biomolecules, supporting protein research and drug discovery. Recent advances in resolution make it possible for cryo-EM to effectively solve protein structures that were previously impenetrable using traditional methods like nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray crystallography. However, the challenging process of obtaining vitrified samples of suitable thickness on foil grids presents a significant bottleneck. Chameleon permits researchers to automate this process in a reliable manner—helping scientists overcome some of the key limitations that have prevented cryo-EM from reaching its full potential.
