DR5:Luciferase expression fluctuates in the oscillation zone (OZ) from low expression (blue) to high expression (yellow and red), to complete one cycle with low expression again. The correspondence between the expression levels and the range of colors are shown in fig. S1. A static point of DR5:Luciferase expression (prebranch site) appears following the DR5 oscillation. See Fig. 1B for a more detailed location of the OZ and prebranch sites in the primary root. The primary root grows following the gravity vector from top to bottom. Duration: 7 hours.

Cyclic oscillating expression of DR5:Luciferase expression in the OZ can be observed as a pulsing wave. Root is on the XY plane and DR5:Luciferase intensity is represented in the Z axis. The primary root grows following the gravity vector from left to right. The root tip can be identified as the first wave of expression. Prebranch sites (standing waves) appear following pulses in DR expression. Duration: 20 hours.
