Repetitive stretching-triggered growth of a DN gel with sustained monomer supply. A DN7 gel connecting to a 200g weight was repetitively lifted in monomer solution (0.08 M NaAMPS and 0.08 M MBAA). Incubation time between two consecutive cycles was 1 h. The DN gel could not lift the weight at the first cycle, while it lifted the weight to 24 and 31 mm height at the second and third cycles, respectively. The gel also increased its length. At the beginning of the first, second and third cycles, the gauge length at load-free state was 15, 28 and 33 mm, respectively.
